Tonight is the 2nd race of the 2009 Monday Night Money Season Presented by the Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure at Auto Club (California) Speedway. Last week was the first race of the 2009 Monday Night Money Season at Daytona International Speedway. Overall 62 drivers attempted to Qualify into the main event, which is an AKM Record for the number of entries for a single race. So 34 drivers made the main event as 28 others went into the B Server. Bill Schoonover ended up winning his 2nd race of the week and collected the $12 that came with winning the B Server race. CJ LaVair and Justin Melillo finished in 2nd and 3rd. Champion Motorsports teammates Tim Beard and Keith Brooks rounded out the top 5. The start of the main event was clean and green as the first 70 or so laps went caution free. With 2 to go to the halfway point, Harrison Widelitz had the lead over Jordan Hightower and company. All Widelitz had to do was finish the next 2 laps and he would collect $12 for Car Owner/Admin Jeff Hale Sr. But on the backstretch Widelitz’s game crashed and had to pull left into the grass to avoid taking out his fellow competitors. Widelitz came back into the server a lap down. But his respectful move on the backstretch and determination to never give up paid off as he came home with a 10th place finish. Jordan Hightower ended up securing the lead and stayed there as he crossed the finish line at the halfway point, securing the $12 for Car Owner/Setup Maker/Super Tall Guy/Roush Employee/Most 2008 DNF’s driver Matt Vassar. I love Matt Vassar because you’re like the only Sim Racer I know that is taller then me!!!!!!! The last 30 or so laps were action packed and exciting all the way to the checkered flag. With 6 laps to go, the leaders were battling fiercely with some exciting side by side action. Coming out of 4 though the big one occurred as several drivers were involved in the incident, shattering their hopes and dreams for the Daytona win. With to 2 go Allen Lewis took the restart for a green/white checkered finish, but Lewis lost the lead quickly to Randy Hockaday because he popped 3rd gear earlier in the race. Lewis ended up dropping back to 4th once he got up to full speed. Coming out of 2 Matt Vassar had a run on Hockaday with Jason Cox right behind. Vassar went high and Hockaday went high to block, then Vassar cut down low and Hockaday went low to block again. Both drivers ended up making contact sending Vassar below the yellow line. But Vassar kept his foot in it and Hockaday give Vassar the room to move up onto the racing surface and take the lead. Coming to the white flag Vassar and Hockaday where side by side with Cox following Hockaday and Lewis following Vassar. Coming out of 2 Vassar and Lewis both cleared Hockaday and Cox as all 4 drivers went to single file mode off of 2. Allen Lewis went high going into 3, but had no help as Hockaday and Cox went low. Coming to the checkered flag Matt Vassar took home the victory and $40 for Car Owner Brad Gorham and Randy Hockaday finished 2nd and brought home $20 for Car Owner Dave Lanza. Allen Lewis ended up securing 3rd place. Jordan Hightower had a strong day finishing 4th and getting $12 for leading at halfway. New comer Nick Hansen rounded out the top 5. Jason Cox would have finished 4th, but was moved back to 17th place and docked -25 points for the wreck with 6 to go. Tonight at California should be a very fun race. There’s multiple grooves to race here and the high flying speeds should add to the excitement for the Monday Night Money drivers. California has a lot of tire wear, so drivers will need to take it easy and conserve their tires for the long runs. Practice should start at around 7:30 EST with Knockout Qualifying at 8:45 EST. Qualifying for both the A and B Servers should start at around 9:15 EST with the green flag dropping shortly after. Tune in to WAKM Radio to listen to the LIVE flag to flag coverage of the AKM Monday Night Money Series Presented by the Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure!

Tomorrow night is the 2nd race of the 2009 Sunday Night Cup Season at Auto Club (California) Speedway. Last week was the first race of the 2009 Sunday Night Cup Season at the famous Daytona International Speedway. A whooping 38 drivers took the green flag on a mission to take the checkered flag in 1st place. The race got off to a very nice start with the first 15 or so laps going caution free. But once the first caution flew, the last 85 or so laps featured a lot of drama and massive carnage all over the place. Tempers started to flare among many of the drivers. This along with the massive carnage created a lot of drama and a lot of stress on the Administrative Staff. The race ended up having 11 cautions for 43 laps, a stat that was unexpected by all the drivers here on Sunday night since Daytona seems to always have a lot of green flag racing here at AKM. But forgetting about all the negatively and rough times the race endured, the race to the finish ended up being one of the closest margins in AKM history. When the caution flew with a few laps to go, the guy that crossed the start/finish in 1st place would end up being the victor. Coming out of 4 Bill Schoonover had the lead over Guy Snyder and Bud Boykin. Knowing the Schoonover was going to stay low, Snyder went high off of 4 with Boykin on his tail. Snyder got a good push from Boykin, but it wasn’t enough as Bill Schoonover had enough Horsepower to the cross the line in 1st by a matter of inches and ended up taking the checkered flag under caution in 1st. Guy Snyder and Bud Boykin still finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Kenny Shipley put on a well of a run finishing 4th. This writer would like to congratulate Shipley’s amazing top 5 run and say that he is awesome and one of the nicest guys here at AKM. This writer isn’t just saying all of these things since he’s this writer’s Owner on Monday Night, it’s just a simple fact. Good job Kenny I love you!!!!!!!! Daniel Frederick Jr. rounded out the top 5. Hopefully tomorrow night at California will be a better race then Daytona. California is a wide sweeping 2 mile race track that features multiple racing grooves. So don’t be surprised if you see some close side by side action up front. Drivers will need to conserve their tires for the long runs and save their equipment for the end. Practice should start at around 7:30 EST. Qualifying should take place at around 8:30 with the green flag dropping shortly after. Tune in to the AKM Homepage to see if the race will be Radio Broadcasted on WAKM radio. If the broadcast is up, it should be at around 8:30 EST. Take care now and see you all Sunday night!!!

Midnight Thunder Series

CJ LaVair brings home the big prize at the end of the Midnight Thunder season. He takes a championship by a huge margin of a single point over Corey Stevens. The picture above was the winning save as CJ got tangled up in a late race crash. He managed to get away basically untouched and earned a respectable finish of 7th place. Congratulations CJ on your well deserved championship.
